My child attends Gordon Elementary School, and it is not a gangland school. The person who stated that is speaking of the neighborhood, and this was 2 years ago. True, the area does need more attention. (i.e., streets need to be swept, etc...) This is a City of Memphis issue, and the tax paying neighbors must speak up about this. But within the last year, dilapidated buildings have been demolished, yards are kept up, people hanging on the corners are not as rampant. Vacant houses have been either rented or boarded up. Police patrol better, and this is because the people in the neighborhood complained of the lack thereof. Otherwise, the neighborhood is a typical one in a black community. This is changing also. Neighbors are black and white in the area.
So, just because you are not living in this area, don't be so judgmental. We are all people of Memphis. There is crime all over the city. Including the suburbs.
