Forks of the River WMA is a great example of state and local cooperation creating something great for everyone. Knoxville's extensive greenway system goes around the periphery of the WMA along the French Broad and joins up with several multi-use trails great for hiking or biking. It's not as crowded as Ijams, but is covered in trees, flowers, and rolling fields. Great spot for birding if you're into that.
It is an active WMA though, with the interior area restricted to hunters at certain intervals. Be sure to check out current restrictions online and be aware of posted signage when you arrive.
